The Guardian geeft het woord aan Robert Engelman, voorzitter van het Worldwatch Institute. Hij stelt zich de vraag of de wereld nog wel te behoeden is voor een ecologische crisis.

Of het nu gaat om klimaat of landbouw, de crisis is dermate groot dat het de overheid (samenwerkend nationaal en Europees) verplicht om denktanks in te stellen met de knapste koppen (mensen die ook al in het verleden hebben laten zien de juiste richting aan te geven) die helemaal vrij van belangengroepen aan oplossingen kunnen werken. Zoals destijds die verschrikkelijke atoombom is gemaakt, zo moeten we nu aan oplossingen klimaatprobleem werken. Dit koppelen aan onderzoeksbudgetten voor de meest veelbelovende initiatieven in de praktijk.. Er is genoeg draagvlak voor maatregelen als we - Naomi Klein na gesproken - de problematiek van de groeiende ongelijkheid in de wereld en de ecologische crisis in samenhang aanpakken.
