De Conferentie wil state-of-the-art analyse, inspirerende visies en innovatieve onderzoeksmethoden voortbrengen op basis van interdisciplinair onderzoek.

Met het oog op de in 2050 te voeden 9 miljard wereldbewoners is het tegelijkertijd leefbaar houden van onze aarde de grootste uitdaging waar de mens voor staat. De urgentie van het probleem heeft de wetenschap recentelijk reuzenstappen doen zetten; daardoor is het moeilijk om het snel uitdijende corpus van wetenschappelijk onderzoek nog bij te houden.

Het doel van de Conferentie is om de economische, sociale, biofysische, technologische en institutionele drivers van de huidige en toekomstige voedselzekerheid beter te begrijpen. De Conferentie zal aandacht besteden aan de productie van en toegang tot voedsel, en de trade-offs die spelen tussen elkaar beconcurrerende milieu-, economische of sociale doelen en resultaten.
